Work directly with our master printmakers to create the best possible fine art prints. This collaborative process (done in person or remotely) allows you to tap into our fine art printing skills and technical expertise, and help you realize your artistic vision.
Archival Inkjet Printing, also known as Pigment or Giclée Printing, is the preferred digital printing choice for artists due to its longevity and versatility. Our Canon IPF9400 and IPF8400 large-format printers use 12 separate inks with multiple black and gray channels for the most accurate color reproduction. With archival ratings in the 60-100 year range, these prints set the standard by which all photographic printing is measured.
We begin with your high resolution digital camera files or your film. For digital capture, we request your raw file to work from. If working from film, 16 bit drum scans of your film are available at an additional fee. Any printed proof or guide (including traditional darkroom prints) indicating your preferred density and contrast helps us target your file efficiently.
Drum scans and digital camera files are cleaned of dust, scratches, sensor spots, and other defects. Your image is optimized for overall density, contrast, color balance, and sharpness. The master file remains uncropped, with the original image intact, providing maximum flexibility for future reprints.
Proofing is a critical component of printmaking, and one round of proofing is included with custom print orders. One test print (8" x 10" full frame, or magnification strip) is included using your chosen media, and reviewed with you before printing your final prints. (If you're not local to us, we send test prints by USPS Priority Mail.) Additional rounds of test prints/proofing are $20.
After file setup is complete, your master files are archived in studio for easy reprinting, and are placed in your user account on our website for easy re-ordering. They are also delivered to you on DVD or via our WeTransfer page.
From the master file, we prepare print-ready files cropped to your specifications, and optimized for printing at your requested size/paper type. Your file is then placed in your user account for easy re-ordering at direct-to-print prices.
